Sealife guideThe Epinephelidae familyThe taxonomy of marine species
Explore the taxonomy of the sea vertebrates including the cetaceans like the whales or the dolphins, the sea birds, the fish, the sharks and the sea turtles !
The Epinephelidae family includes around 210 species of grouper, primarily found in tropical and subtropical waters. These fish, often massive and robust, are known for their varied colors and striking patterns, perfectly adapted to their rocky or coral habitats. Opportunistic predators, they play a vital role in marine ecosystems and are highly valued for their delicious meat, although many species are threatened by overfishing.
