The Indian Ocean is home to many islands with enchanting landscapes and diverse cultures. Among them, Madagascar is the largest and most iconic, boasting a unique biodiversity, including the famous lemurs and majestic baobab trees. Known as the “Red Island,” it also has a rich culture shaped by a mix of African, Asian and European influences. Its paradise beaches, tropical forests and spectacular rock formations make it a popular destination for adventurers and nature lovers.

Not far from Madagascar, the Seychelles and the Mascarene archipelago, including Réunion, Mauritius and Rodrigues, offer contrasting landscapes of white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and volcanic mountains. Réunion, with its famous Piton de la Fournaise, attracts hiking enthusiasts, while Mauritius captivates with its luxury and crystal-clear waters ideal for scuba diving. These islands also have a fascinating history, marked by maritime trade and the arrival of diverse populations that have shaped dynamic, multicultural cultures.
Further north, the Maldives, made up of more than a thousand coral islands, form a true tropical paradise. Known for their crystal-clear waters and exceptional reefs, they are a prime destination for diving and luxury stays. However, these islands are especially vulnerable to climate change, with rising sea levels threatening their existence. Despite these challenges, the Indian Ocean continues to amaze with the beauty and diversity of its islands, true natural and cultural gems.
