Miami Beach, the Atlantic coast of Miami
Miami Beach is a seaside resort located at the gates of Miami city in Florida. Miami Beach is actually made up of a series of natural or artificial islands that stretch to form a natural barrier between the Atlantic ocean and the city of Miami on the mainland.
A vast expanse of water, Biscayne Bay, separates Miami Beach from Miami. Access to Miami Beach and its long white sandy beaches is through privileged routes. Miami Beach is connected to the mainland to the south and north by two main arteries: the « MacArthur Causeway » to the south and the « Julia Tuttle Causeway », actually the E195 Interstate, to the north, which concentrate most of the traffic during peak hours.
In the center, the « Venetian Causeway » takes you across Biscayne Bay to Miami Beach through a game of « leapfrog ».
A bit of history
Originally, in the early 20th century, Miami Beach was an island covered with coconut tree farmland and bordered by mangroves. The idea to develop this island into a seaside resort along the Atlantic Ocean took shape. The Collins Bridge, now the Venetian Causeway, was the first bridge to connect the island to the mainland.
South Beach, nicknamed « SoBe » in trendy circles, is the ultimate tourist destination with its numerous restaurants, nightclubs and hotels.
Under the media spotlight
Miami Beach is inseparable from the city of Miami and is particularly media-covered in France through TV series. In addition to the famous « Miami Vice » (known as « Deux flics à Miami » in French) from the 80s, both Miami and Miami Beach have served as the backdrop for more recent series like « CSI: Miami » and « Dexter ».

The common sea fan
The common sea fan, is a type of soft coral found in the warm, shallow waters of the Caribbean and the western Atlantic ocean. It grows in wide, fan-shaped forms that sway gently with the ocean currents, helping it catch tiny food particles drifting by. Its beautiful purple branches are covered by a thin living tissue that hosts tiny algae, which provide much of the coral's energy through sunlight.
