Juvenile individuals are characterized by a bright golden-yellow coloration with dark vertical bands, while adults become more silvery with golden reflections and less distinct markings.
Geographic range
The golden trevally is widely distributed throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific waters, from the coasts of East Africa to the Pacific islands and the western coasts of the Americas.
Habitat
The golden trevally primarily inhabits coastal environments such as coral reefs, lagoons, and shallow sandy areas. Juveniles can also be found in estuaries and sometimes associated with jellyfish or large marine animals in order to protect themselves from predators.
The golden trevally sometimes forms schools, particularly during its juvenile stage.
Diet
The golden trevally is an opportunistic feeder, mainly consuming small crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish that it disturbs from the sand or reef crevices.

Reproduction
The golden trevally is an oviparous species. Eggs and larvae are planktonic and drift in ocean currents before juveniles move into shallow coastal areas where they continue their development.
Growth is rapid, and sexual maturity is reached at a size of about 12 inches, allowing the species to maintain stable populations despite significant environmental pressure in its natural habitat.
